TEMPORARY PERMISSION TO STAY FOR FAMILY REUNION
A temporary stay permit for the purpose of family reunion is issued by a foreign affairs police department, on condition that there are no legitimate grounds to refuse the applications from the citizens of third countries, who are:- family membes of the citizen of a third country who has a temporary or permanent stay permit on the territory of SR;
- are close lineal relatives of a refugee who is aged under 18
- dependent persons according to a international contract
- a spouse in case the spouses reached the age of 18,
- an unmarried child of the person of a third country and his/her spouse, and who is aged under 18,
- an unmarried child of the person of a third country,
- an unmarried child of the foreign citizen’s spouse aged under 18,
- an unmarried dependent child of the person of a third country, aged over 18, or an unmarried dependent child of his/ her spouse aged over 18, who requires personal care for health reasons. ,
- his/ her parents or the parents of his/ her spouse who require constant personal care and do not have proper care in their home country.
People who are considered as family members of a person of a third country, as per 1 a):
1) 2x photos sized 3x 3.5 cm,
2) Valid international passport,
3) administration fee payment receipt to the sum of 132,50 Euro; applicants aged under 18 do not pay this fee;
4) purpose of stay
/(issued within the last 90 days):
- registry office document; if it concerns an applicant who is applying for a temporary stay permit for family reunion for an unmarried child aged under 18, a child aged under 18 dependent on a foreign citizen, a child dependent on the parents, parents who require personal care from the part of the foreign citizen, or people who are considered dependent according to an international agreement or a document certifying this fact.
5) absence of previous convictions:
- extract from the criminal record or the applicant’s citizenship-country, translated into the Slovak language and notarized or certified by a translation agency (or a legal translator),
- extract from the criminal record of the country where the applicant has stayed within the last three years for the period exceeding 90 days during 6 months in succession.
6) financial provision of the stay:
- a statement from the spouse, parents, family member who is taking care of the mother/ father of the foreign citizen, or from the person who is in charge of one of the parents, certifying that they are able to provide financial provision to the foreign citizen on the territory of Slovak Republic, together with a work contract or a letter from the employer indicating the wage amount, an extract from a bank account opened in the name of the foreign citizen showing the availability of the threshold amount equal to the living-wage per each month of is stay (annually 2,277.96 Euro). For under age citizens of a third country a half of this threshold amount (annually 1138.98 Euro) or certificate of received allowance must be confirmed.
7) Accomodation:
- a certificate of property or an extract from a certificate of property, issued by a property cadastre in the name of the person of a third country, or
- a notarized contract of tenancy with the owner or a user of the tenement and an extract from the certificate of property or any other document certifying the accommodation right, or
- a confirmation from a hotel, hostel or boarding house to provide accommodation, or
- a notarized consent from a natural or legal person to provide accommodation to the foreign citizen on the territory of Slovak Republic and an extract from the certificate of property or any other document certifying the accommodation right, or
- an invitation, provided it guarantees accommodation.
8)Consent:
- according to §32/9 ЗПИ an applicant must within 30 days from the issue date of the temporary stay permit submit to a foreign affairs police department a medical insurance certificate valid on the territory of SR.
- according to 32/10 ЗПИ an applicant who has received a temporary stay permit must within 30 days from its issue date submit to a foreign affairs police department a medical attestation certifying that he has no dangerous diseases. This medical attestation is valid within 30 days from the date of its issue.
(All the documents enclosed to the application must be issued within the last 90 days). (The submission of the criminal record extract is not mandatory if the applicant is under the age of 14, or the applicant is applying for the change of the purpose of his stay and is staying legally on the territory of Slovak Republic at the time of his application submission).
EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY PERMISSION TO STAY FOR FAMILY REUNION:
DOCUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED TO THE APPLICATION:1) 2x photos sized 3x 3.5 cm,
2) Valid international passport,
3) administration fee payment receipt to the sum of 66 Euro; applicants aged under 18 do not pay this fee;,
4) purpose of stay:

5) financial provision of stay:
- a statement from the spouse, parents, family member who is taking care of the mother/ father of the foreign citizen, or from the person who is in charge of one of the parents, certifying that they are able to provide financial provision to the foreign citizen on the territory of Slovak Republic, together with a work contract or a letter from the employer indicating the wage amount, an extract from a bank account opened in the name of the foreign citizen showing the availability of the threshold amount equal to the living-wage per each month of is stay (annually 2,277.96 Euro). For under age citizens of a third country a half of this threshold amount (annually 1138.98 Euro), or a certification of received allowance must be confirmed
- in case the financial provision for the foreign person who is applying for extension of temporary stay permit in order to reunite with the family is confirmed by a citizen of a third country, the reunion with whom the applicant is applying for, and who was granted a temporary stay permit in order to perform entrepreneurial activity, the amount of the financial provision is higher – notably, 2,277.96 Euro per each adult applicant and 1,138.98 Euro per each under-age person.
6) medical insurance:
- medical insurance valid for the whole period of stay on the territory of Slovak Republic
7) Accommodation:
- a certificate of property or an extract from a certificate of property, issued by a property cadastre in the name of the person of a third country, or
- a notarized contract of tenancy with the owner or a user of the tenement and an extract from the certificate of property or any other document certifying the accommodation right, or
- a confirmation from a hotel, hostel or boarding house to provide accommodation, or
- a notarized consent from a natural or legal person to provide accommodation to the foreign citizen on the territory of Slovak Republic and an extract from the certificate of property or any other document certifying the accommodation right.
